Pend Oreille PUD was established in 1936 and commenced operations in 1948.  The District is comprised of three primary operating divisions: the Production Division; which produces hydroelectric power from the Box Canyon Dam; the Distribution Division, which distributes electricity to approximately 8,500 customers in Pend Oreille County; and the Water Division, which owns and operates nine individual water distribution systems within the District. The District also provides wholesale broadband services.
